Move To Tourist Park

After six years at the Champion Horse Pulling Grounds, the Hiawatha Music Co-op began considering a move to a new location. While the location in Champion had served them well, it was far from a large population and did not have the best facilities for camping. In 1984, the City of Marquette showed interest in hosting Hiawatha at Marquette Tourist Park. The site had all the things the festival needed: a campground with bathrooms and showers, lots of shade, adequate parking, a beach and lake for swimming and its location in the U.P.’s largest community. The first festival at Tourist Park was held July 22-24, 1984, and it has been held there ever since.
